Online Training on Gender in Humanitarian Action, 20-21 October 2021

This training aims to contribute to gender equality and promote to employ gender lens in the humanitarian space in order to increase the effectiveness of the actions of NGOs since vulnerable individuals are heterogeneous and has different needs. In addition to responding to vulnerable individuals, gender perspective also necessitates focusing on group values, attitudes, and relations as well as general context which is vital in humanitarian strategies and interventions.

 

Due to the high interest in our Gender in Humanitarian Action training, we will be organizing another training in 20-21 October 2021.

For the Employees of Humanitarian NGOs in Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş

The training is organized by AAR Japan with the support of UNHCR, and provided by GAR-The Association for Migration Research.

The certificate of attendance will be provided only for the ones who attend all the sessions.

Session I 13:30-14:15: Essential concepts and debates (Lülüfer Körükmez)

In this session, basic concepts and rationale for employing gender perspective will be

discussed. The following topics will be covered: What is gender? What is gender equality? What is gender mainstreaming? Why does gender matter?

 Session II 14:30-15:15 Strategies for gender mainstreaming I (Lülüfer Körükmez)

Gender mainstreaming both as a goal and strategy needs to achieve equality, requiring a “gender representation and gender-responsive content” in all dimensions of actions. In this session identification of gender mainstreaming, barriers to implementing gender

mainstreaming, and coping strategies will be covered.

 Session III 15:30-16:15: Strategies for gender mainstreaming II (Lülüfer Körükmez)

In this session methods and tools of gender mainstreaming will be covered such as gender analysis, mobilization of resources, monitoring, and reporting.

Session IV 13:30-14:15 Gender at work I (Meriç Çağlar)

This session focuses on constraints and solutions to promote gender equality at work with the aim of institutionalization of gender equality at the workplace. To meet such an end, anti-harassment programs and complaint mechanisms, and gender audit as a gender mainstreaming tool will be covered with a focus on access to resources and division of labor.

 Session V 14:30-15:15 Gender and humanitarian action (Meriç Çağlar)

In this session, the rationale of gender mainstreaming in humanitarian action will be discussed. In addition, key steps to integrating gender in humanitarian action will be covered such as collecting data, funding for programs, and monitoring.

 Session V 15:30-16:15 Good Practices (Lülüfer Körükmez and Meriç Çağlar)

Cases of good practices in various institutions will be discussed to provide an insight into the implementation and initialization of gender mainstreaming.
