GAR is hosting Prof. Ricard Zapata Barrero to give a public talk and closing keynote of the IMISCOE PhD Summer School 2019 Istanbul. The talk will be in English. Ricard Zapata Barrero is Professor at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona-Spain) and the Director of GRITIM-UPF (Interdisciplinary Research Group on Immigration) and the Master Programme on Migration Studies. He is also member of the Board of Directors, the European Network IMISCOE (International Migration and Social Cohesion in Europe. His main lines of research deal with contemporary issues of liberal democracy in contexts of diversity, especially the relationship between democracy, citizenship and immigration in particular, within two main fields: Borders/Human Mobility Studies and Diversity/Citizenship studies. He promotes interdisciplinary knowledge on immigration, combine theory and case studies, and follow contextual, conceptual and interpretive approaches.
Funded by Heinrich Böll Stiftung, his recent book Qualitative Research In European Migration Studies, edited with Evren Yalaz is translated into Turkish by GAR.
