“Public Perceptions Towards Refugees: Examining the Role of Potential Interventions” study report has been published

“Public Perceptions Towards Refugees: Examining the Role of Potential Interventions” study report authored by Gülay Uğur Göksel and Sedef Turper has been published. Addressing the challenges of rising anti-immigrant discourse and societal tensions, the study explores the effectiveness of various innovative strategies designed to mitigate anti-immigrant sentiments.

The report presents findings from an experimental study and focus group discussions conducted with university students in Istanbul. It discusses the extent to which text-based misinformation corrections, video narratives, and perspective-taking games can effectively counter misinformation, reduce negative sentiments, mitigate feelings of group relative deprivation, and foster empathy towards refugees. As such, it offers valuable insights into potential strategies for reducing negative public sentiments towards refugees and facilitating support for more inclusive policies.

The research, conducted by the Migration Research Association (GAR) and supported by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Turkey Office, was coordinated by Gülay Uğur Göksel and Sedef Turper. The research team comprised Gülay Uğur Göksel, Sedef Turper, Didem Danış, Sernaz Arslan, and Buket Özdemir, who also served as the administrative assistant for the project.
