On April 19, 2019, our members Assoc. Prof. Didem Danış (Galatasaray University) and Assoc. Prof. Deniz Şenol Sert (Özyeğin University) attended a panel on the impacts of “refugee crisis” in Europe and Turkey. The panel, which was held in Salt Galata was organized by the French Institute of Anatolian Studies. The other speaker at the panel was Camille Hamidi (Université Lumière Lyon 2). The panel was facilitated by Jean-Fransçois Pérouse (University of Toulouse).

Immediately after the local elections of March 31, 2019, Tanju Özcan, the newly elected mayor of Bolu, took actions that are discriminatory towards refugees. Özcan announced that the municipality would stop any kind of social assistance provided to the Syrian asylum seekers and that the Syrians would not be given business license. This denouncement is not only illegal; it is also a violation of human rights.

On April 19, 2019, Thursday, French Political Scientist Camille Hamidi (Université Lumière Lyon 2) and Association for Migration Research – GAR members Assoc. Prof. Didem Danış (Galatasaray University) and Assoc. Prof. Deniz Şenol Sert (Özyeğin University) are going to attend a panel on the “refugee crisis” in Europe and Turkey and its repercussions. Jean-Françoise Pérouse (Université de Toulouse) will be the facilitator and discussant of the panel.
We are organizing an IMISCOE Summer School, titled “Integration and Social Cohesion: Theory, Practice, Method and Ethics of Conduct,” with the partnership of University of Gothenburg Center on Global Migration under the title of The Summer School will be held June 9-14, 2019 in Istanbul. This summer school will be the first international organization of GAR.
