REBLOOM 2: A Migrant-led Artistic Space Exploring Gendered Dominance

REBLOOM 2 is the second edition of last year’s REBLOOM,  a multimedia festival space composed of artworks, performances and personal items that  tell stories of harsh and powerful memories, of daily routines and realities.

Rebloom Festival is a tribute to the artistic vein that keeps pumping against all odds. A space to reclaim artistic identities, giving them space to re-exist and, therefore, to Rebloom. Courage, risk-taking, resourcefulness, self-confidence, resilience – the same qualities that led people on the move safely to the new land – are punishable in environments that expect them to adhere to stereotypes of being devastated, grateful and docile. Rebloom celebrates defiance of these roles and images, giving space to artists to pursue their identities no matter how far from the safe mainstream of power and gendered hierarchies they lie; it opposes a life in survival mode, characterised by precariousness, anxiety and repetitiveness, where creativity perishes.

15 artists who arrived in Istanbul from all corners of the globe will meet and (co)create a post-migration space in the heart of the city.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of side-events, including concerts, live performances and a film screening.

Full programme to be announced soon!

Dates: 23 – 25 January

Location: Postane, Bereketzade Mah. Camekan Sk. No: 9 Galata – Beyoğlu/İstanbul

This set of activities was developed by Inter Alia in the context of Outcast Europe and Positively Different Short Film Festival and is now brought to Istanbul in collaboration with GAR (Association for Migration Research), Hubban project and Urban.koop.

📸Open Arms rescued 58 people in the Central Mediterranean on Wednesday, including 24 unaccompanied minors.

The group had departed from Al-Khums, Libya, and spent ~24 hours at sea aboard an overcrowded fiberglass boat without life jackets or navigation equipment, said Open Arms.
