Evaluation and Recommendations on Social Cohesion of Refugees in Turkey

This summer, the Governorate of Istanbul announced that the Syrian refugees who are not registered in Istanbul would be sent back. This announcement sparked a heated public debate.

This summer, the Governorate of Istanbul announced that the Syrian refugees who are not registered in Istanbul would be sent back. This announcement sparked a heated public debate.

We, the members of GAR Association for Migration Research, have expressed our opinions on various platforms. However, considering that we need to share our evaluation and recommendation on the current situation, we decided to prepare the notes, the second of which can be found below.

Based on their field of expertise, GAR member scholars wrote down their evaluations and recommendations about the Syrian population on subjects such as legal status, civil society, and social cohesion. You can find the second note on social cohesion by Dr. Doğuş Şimşek in the link below.

We are publicizing the evaluations of our members, hoping that these works can contribute to the constitution of a democratic platform for further discussions.

Publication date: September 29, 2019

You can find the evaluations here (in Turkish):

📢 Yürütmekte olduğumuz araştırmanın son tur görüşmeleri için son 5 yılda, mezuniyet sonrası yurtdışına çıkmış ve bu süreçte ODTÜ mezun dernekleri ya da yurtdışındaki mezun dayanışma ağlarıyla ilişkilenmiş ODTÜ mezunu görüşmecilere ulaşmaya çalışıyoruz.

📸 Hundreds of migrants are living in makeshift camps like this one in Loon-Plage on the northern French coast.

They are hoping to make it to the UK, most in small boats across the Channel.

Living conditions at the camps are always dire but especially in the colder months.
