Dr. Derya Özkul is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Warwick and a Research Associate at the Refugee Studies Centre at the University of Oxford. She is the Principal Investigator of the project Digitising Identity, which explores the digitalisation of the UK immigration system. She also serves as a Co-Investigator on the project Algorithmic Fairness for Asylum Seekers and Refugees (AFAR). As part of this project, Dr. Özkul authored a comprehensive research report titled Automating Immigration and Asylum, which examines the use of new technologies in migration and asylum systems. Her academic work includes numerous journal articles and book chapters focusing on migration and displacement policies, as well as the digitalisation processes and their impacts in these fields. Dr. Özkul is also Co-Director of the Social Theory Centre at the University of Warwick and a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration (IASFM).
