REBLOOM: Post-Migration Spaces and Artistic Encounters in Istanbul

5 – 7 December | Postane, Bereketzade Mah. Camekan Sk. No: 9 Galata – Beyoğlu/İstanbul

How many of your favourite creatives – actors, dancers, composers, directors, authors – escaped oppressive lands before they produced their masterpiece? How many millions before and after them had their identities, unique skills and talents denied or forgotten due to the hardships of displacement or the dehumanising experience of incarceration? Our festival in Istanbul, marks an effort to reclaim and celebrate these artistic identities, giving them space to re-exist and, therefore, to Rebloom.

REBLOOM is a multimedia festival space of artworks and personal items that narrate stories of harsh and powerful memories, of daily routines and realities. 18 artists who arrived in Istanbul from all corners of the globe meet and (co)create a post-migration space in the heart of the city. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of side-events, including concerts, live performances and a film screening.

This set of activities was developed by Inter Alia in the context of Outcast Europe and Positively Different Short Film Festival and is now brought to Istanbul in collaboration with GAR (Association for Migration Research), Hubban project and Urban.koop.

Authorities fear there may be "hundreds" of migrants missing and dead in the Central Mediterranean after "multiple deadly shipwrecks in recent days."

Two conflicting emotions have emerged among Iranians crossing the border to Turkey:

On the one hand, there is the almost vital need to report on the ongoing violent repression — on the other, the fear of being arrested.
