The first book of GARKitaplık came out!

We present the first book of GARKitaplık series, Avrupa Göç Çalışmalarında Nitel Araştırmalar.

We believe that one of the very first steps to improve the quality of migration studies in Turkey is to take methodology seriously. Accordingly, we organized “Methods and Ethics in Migration Research” certificate program with our members Cavidan Soykan, Lülüfer Körükmez and Polat Alpman in İstanbul, Mersin, and Gaziantep. Later, we decided to translate a methodology book in Turkish as the lasting outcome of this training. Our first publication, to this end, is the translation of the edited volume Qualitative Research in European Migration Studies (Eds. Ricard Zapata-Barrero and Evren Yalaz) in which 16 leading European scholars contributed.

Of course, many people contributed to this process. We would like to thank Springer Open and the editors of the book who gave the permission to translate and publish the book without copyrights; our translators Funda Karapehlivan, Ayşecan Ay, Canan Coşkan and Zuhal Karagöz, each of whom are very valuable social scientists; Eda Sevinin who edited the translation of the book; Gökçen Taner who did the book and cover design; and to Heinrich Böll Stiftung Turkey which funded the project.

The book launch will be in Salt Galata on June 13, 2018, at 18.00, with the participation of Ricard Zapata-Barrero. We can send the hardcopy of the book to those who send an e-mail to gar@gocarastirmalaridernegi.org. E-book is available in the link below:

📸Open Arms rescued 58 people in the Central Mediterranean on Wednesday, including 24 unaccompanied minors.

The group had departed from Al-Khums, Libya, and spent ~24 hours at sea aboard an overcrowded fiberglass boat without life jackets or navigation equipment, said Open Arms.
